Many people tell me I am wrong and they do not
agree with me at any point. But this is what I think.
Imagine
you are waiting for something very important to happen. For example, you are
waiting to be told the results of the scholarship you applied for. The
organizers are going to call you to tell you whether you were selected to
travel to England or not. What should
you think in my opinion? Well, I think it is better to think negatively: “I´m
not the one who will be selected, I won’t travel because I´m not really sure of my
conditions, etc. etc. etc.)”.
So, what you might be wondering is: what for? Why
should I be so pessimistic?
Well basically because if you are told you were
not selected, it is as if you had prepared yourself for that response in
advance and, therefore, you do not feel that bad!
Now, what happens if you are told you won and
you are the one going to travel to England? Wouldn’t you be extremely happy and
much more surprised? I think you would.
This is my theory and it has always worked for
me! Now, what about you? Are you pessimist? Does it work for you?
For me, it does J
In my case, I don't expect anything. I try not to think about the issue. I am neither a pessimist who says I don't deserve it or that I am not prepared or stuff like these nor a naive optimist who is always waiting good things and always gets dissapointed.
ReplyDeleteI can put myself in the middle of these two.
I wait for destiny to show me what's next :) I already did my best. Now, it is up to LIFE. Life, destiny, or whatever it is, will tell me how this follows.
Yes Nadine!! I tink that I am a pessimist too! I always have this phrase in mind: the bigger the hope, the bigger the dissapointment! I know that this may be so pessimistic, but I can't control this feeling that I have. However, I also had the experience of trying to think in a pessimist way in order to be prepared but I knew that I was thinking that a miracle may happen, haha!
ReplyDeleteI am a pessimist as well!! And so far, so good in many cases! For example, when I sit for an exam, specially a final exam, when I really believe I won't pass and I am not sure about my answers and all that, it turns out that I do pass!! Haha! It also happened to me when I applied to work at the Second Cinema's Festival in 2008. There were many people, and there were very well-prepared people and I didn't think I did that good in my application, exam and interview but, some time later, I was called and told I was selected to work there! I think that Wan Shu is right. We think negatively but, deep in our hearts, waiting for a miracle to happen!! =)
