Last
night I heard there is a new kind of “law” or something like that, that forbids
the owners of restaurants, bars and the like to put the salt shaker on the table.
Apparently the reason of this decision is that people tend to add more salt to
their meals and that some of them even do it before testing the food.
Of
course I understand the reason, and I agree with the fact that adding too much
salt to your food is absolutely unhealthy. However, can you think of eating salad
without salt? What about “asado”? Some foods change their flavor completely if
you don’t add salt. I know that, if in a restaurant, you ask any member of the staff serving at table to bring you the salt shaker, they will. Nevertheless,
what bothers me in a way is the fact the THEY decide for you.
What
I would say to authorities or to whoever created that regulation is:
“Thank you very much! I really appreciate your
taking care of me and my health, but I am the one deciding on my life. I am
absolutely conscious of the disadvantages and dangers of eating too much salt
(I actually don’t eat much, really) but it is I who want to decide and what I
decide is not to eat tasteless pieces of food. If you want to take care of
people’s lives, teach them about the problems that consuming too much salt can
bring, but do not take salt away from our food.” THANK YOU! J
HA HA.. I loved the message.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely true. I also understand the reasons why they took ths decisions. But, isn't it better if you explain and raise this awarness in people? Why on earth are they thinking people do not understand? I mean.. If there are some that do it anyways even when they know it is unhealthy, well, it is up to them.
But at least try to explain. Desing posters with the message, brochures, add it in the menu, say it throug the megphone... There are millions of ways...
That was what I had thought about.. there are other ways... don't take the salt shaker off of the table!!! ha ha
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you girls! There are other ways of raising the awareness of people, and through this law, I don't think people will pay attention to this!
ReplyDeleteIt is a way of protecting people´s lives, I agree with that. But as you have said Nadine, we are the owners of our health and then kind. As customers we have the right to be given what we ask, that´s why we are paying, right? So instead of wasting a lot of money in embellesing the restaurant, they can use some money in order to create adds, posters and TV publicities, if awareness is what they want to rise. But don´t take the salt from the table, haha!
ReplyDeletesometimes these laws the government create are useless! it reminded me about the horrible pictures they put on the packets of cigarretes, people just don't pay attention to them...
